NFL Power Rankings - Week 5
At least I wasn't alone last week. It seemed like Vegas got the better of the betting public. I think I have a better handle of which teams are terrible and the few that have a chance at lifting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season. It's that middle of the pack group that vexes me. How about another stab?
32. St. Louis Rams (0-4)
The perfect team for Rush Limbaugh to support.
31. Cleveland Browns (0-4)
Maybe they should suit Jim Brown up. Can't hurt. On the bright side, the 8-year old Browns that I coach won our first game this morning. So that was nice.
30. Kansas City Chiefs (0-4)
Is Priest Holmes available? At least we don't have to worry about Trent Green getting concussed again. What a waste of a good football crowd.
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4)
They might be better than I give them credit for with Johnson at QB, but that wouldn't take a whole lot.
28. Oakland Raiders (1-3)
Quick, name a quarterback worse than JaMarcus Russell that's had a starting job in the last ten years. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
27. Detroit Lions (1-3)
Daunte Culpepper's back. How about Barry Sanders now?
26. Washington Redskins (2-2)
Much worse than their record suggests with two wins at home by a combined five points against the Rams and Bucs. They're the Baltimore Orioles of football.
25. Buffalo Bills (1-3)
Is it possible for T.O. to make a splash all the way up in Buffalo with a horrible Bills team?
24. Carolina Panthers (0-3)
A tough early schedule for the Panthers. Delhomme is showing mild signs of life. If they can get him from horrible up to slightly bad then the running game should take care of the rest.
23. Miami Dolphins (1-3)
I'm not buying into the Chad Henne era just yet. Buffalo might just be that bad.
22. Tennessee Titans (0-4)
I can't understand how they've fallen off like this. Chris Johnson is still lighting it up. Maybe it's time to give Vince Young a chance.
21. Seattle Seahawks (1-3)
They're a different team with Matt Hasselbeck taking the snaps. If he's healthy they could be a nice pick for a few weeks.
20. Houston Texans (2-2)
Tough to get too excited for a win against Oakland. Let's see if the Texans defense can answer the call this week in Arizona.
19. Arizona Cardinals (1-2)
It was a good time to have a bye week. They need to run Play #1 more often. What's that you ask? It's the throw the ball up for grabs in Larry Fitzgerald's general direction play.
18. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2)
Not dead yet. Del Rio must have done something right.
17. Dallas Cowboys (2-2)
An impressive way to blow a game. How many tackles did Brandon Marshall break on that last play? I know Tony Romo is getting a ton of the blame but the Dallas secondary is a big reason for the losses.
16. Cincinnati Bengals (3-1)
That game in Cleveland left a lot to be desired but a win's a win. You have to be happy if you're a Bengals fan with the way the defense is playing to start the season.
15. Green Bay Packers (2-2)
I know what Green Bay needs to work on. I think I have Jared Allen's celebration memorized now.
14. San Diego Chargers (2-2)
It would help if they played in the first three quarters of the game. Somebody get Norv a cup of coffee.
13. Chicago Bears (3-1)
Scoring 48 points is a feat in Chicago, even if it does come against the Lions.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2)
They get a bye this week. Well, they play in Detroit. Same difference.
11. San Francisco 49ers (3-1)
I'm buying whatever Mike Singletary's selling. I may start walking around with a stop-clock around my neck.
10. Atlanta Falcons (2-1)
Going into San Francisco is a tough game all of a sudden. I have a feeling with the Falcons coming off of a bye week though.
9. New York Jets (3-1)
The Jets didn't win, but they proved that they're game even against the best the league has to offer. Take away some rookie mistakes and the Jets could be in the Top-5 come season's end.
8. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1)
Donovan's coming back although the Eagles could be Tampa at home with my dog playing QB.
7. Denver Broncos (4-0)
I was wrong. Happy? I said it.
6. Baltimore Ravens (3-1)
Not the same defense they're used to having in Baltimore, but the offense is more than making up the ground this season. A close loss in New England isn't anything to be ashamed of.
5. New England Patriots (3-1)
When you're beating the Ravens with an imperfect performance, you're a pretty good team. If Brady gets his confidence back, watch out.
4. Minnesota Vikings (4-0)
You may not like Brett Favre, but like the Yankees crowd did for Billy Chapel, you have to tip your cap to a game like that. Favre may have sold his soul, but he got a good team for it.
3. New Orleans Saints (4-0)
They passed their first test of the season. The Superdome is going to be a tough place to play in the playoffs.
2. New York Giants (4-0)
Eli Manning's plantar faciitis hurts but they still have their defense and offensive line. Not much else is needed in this league.
1. Indianapolis Colts (4-0)
Is anybody else noticing that this is the best team in football with the best QB in the NFL?
