Random Thoughts on a Sunday Evening
Dallas has no secondary. They're making Eli Manning look like he should be getting $100 million. Wait, the Giants gave him $100 million? So if I had an older brother that was a sure fire hall of fame QB, refused to sign for the team that drafted me to go to another with a great running game and defense, had a Dad that was a baller at QB, and was about as entertaining on TV as a cleaning device infomercial that someone would give me $100 million? Doesn't seem right. Although we get to see his deer in headlights look at least twice a week, so that's nice.
I can't believe there are millions of people that watch Glenn Beck and listen to Rush Limbaugh. I'd say Beck and Limbaugh make them dumber just by tuning in but I'm not sure there was that much there to begin with.
You know what's a fun game? Play, which would you rather watch, random NASCAR race or (fill in the blank)? Interesting to see where you'd draw the line.
The Sports Guy hit one nail on the head. The New Orleans over is hitting every week. They're going to put 40 up on anyone and their defense has given up 20+ to the Lions and Kevin Kolb in back to back weeks. Kolb almost passed for 400 yards.
I'm a little excited for the Tour Championship this week. I'm not sure if Tiger will win the tournament by 10 strokes or do just enough to ensure he wins the FedEx Cup. The good news is, it's impossible to figure out the points system for the FedEx Cup so he'll probably floor it just to be safe.
Are the 2010 Winter Olympics in January or December? I know I could take two seconds to look this up but I'm too lazy. I hope it's in January. I like the Olympics.
I was discussing this with a friend. I really wish I had gone to Miami. Maybe I'll get some random online degree. You know why? Because it's fun to say you went to "The U." Here watch: Eric Rudin . . . The U. Try it with your name. It's a lot of fun.
Why are Stu Scott's everyday glasses the same ones that guys wear to ride bikes or run the marathon? Why haven't I turned the channel yet with him on my screen?
ESPN needs to figure out a way to broadcast tight fantasy battles as the baseball season winds down. I'm in third place in my league but fourth place is only 1/2 a point back. That is way more exciting than any of the races in either the AL or NL, wildcards included. I'm sure you could do a show with guys watching the games and going insane, as any fantasy nerd would, with every big home run or pitching blowup swinging the standings. I'm telling you, that would be way more entertaining than Cubs/Cardinals right now.
Did Drew Brees get his birthmark changed into an intimidating scar? It went from chocolate stain to Scarface. I like. Would you ever get into a fight with a guy with that scar on his face? He needs a cool nickname, like how Charlie Luciano became Lucky and Capone became Scarface, Brees needs one. Any ideas RW faithful?
Is it just me, or is it not inappropriate to describe a football play as a "muff"? If you can "muff" a punt then you should be able to "shlong" a wide open pass. "He's wide open! Oh no! Right in the hands! Wow, he sure shlonged that one."
As boring as the end of the baseball season is right now, I think it will be all kinds of exciting in the playoffs. There is nothing remotely close to a sure thing in either league. I can see every team in the playoffs winning it all except for Detroit.
I wish I had been at a crowded bar filled with USC fans to watch the Trojans lose to UW. I was in such a place for the loss to Oregon State last year. It was glorious. I'm sure this was just as good. Nothing better than a bunch of people with a collective false sense of entitlement getting eerily quiet as a game winds down. I'm glad UCLA won again this week but I have no illusions about what our season has to offer. Watching USC lose on the other hand, (especially to a Pac-10 team; that way I don't feel guilty for rooting against the Pac-10) is just special.
What is with all of the "play is under review" calls in NCAA football? Why not go to the challenge system? And you know what else is ridiculous? Not letting the kids celebrate after a big play. I'm not talking about taunting. I'm talking about that play in the Tennessee game where the guy got flagged for doing the Daunte Culpepper rolling celebration. Maybe he got flagged for doing a dumb celebration, but still. We're paying these guys to entertain, right? Why not let them entertain? What's that? College football is a multi-billion dollar industry but the players aren't paid? So, they're treated like professionals, play the same game, are under the same type of pressure, have to do "school" on top of it, produce as much money as almost any professional sport does, yet the guys don't get paid? And on top of that they're not allowed to have fun? Well, at least these "student-athletes" are taught the value of education.
The WNBA playoffs have been great. I like how the Sparks have been playing. And the Lynx have been showing some heart. I'm just not sure anyone is going to stop . . . Sorry, I couldn't keep that up much longer. You really think I'm watching the WNBA?
Was there an easier parlay this weekend than Chris John to Floyd Mayweather Jr.? I know it paid out at -200 but when something is that much of a sure thing, -200 isn't bad. The bank gives you 2% interest if you're lucky. That combo gave you 50%. Think about it. Next time you're in Vegas that is.
Norv Turner has a job yet 10% of adults in the U.S. don't? How is that possible?
Alright, time for bed.
