NFL Power Rankings - Week 2
Week 1 answered exactly zero of my questions. But for your entertainment I'll pretend like I know what's going to happen this week.
32. St. Louis Rams (0-1)
Wow, I severely overestimated this team's capabilities. They're amazingly bad.
31. Detroit Lions (0-1)
Bad, but not 0-16 bad. They showed signs of life which is always good.
30. Kansas City Chiefs (0-1)
They hung in there for a little while with the Ravens but I just don't see how the Chiefs hold up this season. Not enough talent.
29. Oakland Raiders (0-1)
The Raiders could write a book on figuring out ways to lose.
28. Buffalo Bills (0-1)
Speaking of figuring out ways to lose. That was pretty impressive. I smell an implosion coming and it centers around "making decisions."
27. Denver Broncos (1-0)
Despite that miracle at the end of the game last week, I still think I'm right about them. That was an ugly performance they put on. Don't let the 1-0 record fool you.
26. Cleveland Browns (0-1)
Do I really have to do analysis here or can I just write, "they're the Browns." Ok, thanks. . . . They're the Browns.
25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1)
They'll be able to run the ball but that's about it. They were exposed in the secondary by Dallas and I think other teams took note.
24. Miami Dolphins (0-1)
Unfortunately for last year's feel good story, I think I'm right about the Dolphins too. Their offense is inconsistent at best and their defense isn't good enough to mask it.
23. Cincinnati Bengals (0-1)
I haven't completely lost faith in them, but that was an unimpressive Week 1 performance against a bad Denver team at home. Well, maybe I lost a little bit of faith.
22. Arizona Cardinals (0-1)
Super Bowl loser hangover. It's as predictable as T.O.'s annual QB second guessing.
21. Chicago Bears (0-1)
That was about as bad as things could have gone. Cutler looked shoddy and Urlacher is gone. Bad news Bears.
20. Carolina Panthers (0-1)
Yes. This low. I know how highly I had them ranked last season but if they stick with Jake Delhomme at QB then I can't see how they win more than 6 games. What's worse is that he probably knows it too. It's a shame Jeff Garcia wasn't a free agent.
19. Houston Texans (0-1)
I really thought they were going to finally be good. They're like the Bengals Remix version. Fun offense, decent enough defense. Finally going to put it together, right? Um, yeah.
18. New York Jets (1-0)
Mark Sanchise. Great nickname. Rex Ryan apparently brought his Ravens defense with him. Sanchez just has to manage the offense a la Flacco. I could see a meteoric rise, if only they weren't the Jets.
17. San Francisco 49ers (1-0)
Singletary wears a big wooden cross and a stop watch. Not sure what that means but it's working. They continue to improve and what was once a punchline is now a proven leader. I loved that timeout he took in the second half. His team came out on fire.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1)
Jack Del Rio looks like he'll be keeping his job for another week. The Jags looked relatively impressive but apparently nobody in Jacksonville cares to watch.
15. Washington Redskins (0-1)
I'm not sure but I think the Redskins defense will win them some games. I'm not going to sing Jason Campbell's praises but I'm not going to slam him yet either.
14. Seattle Seahawks (1-0)
Don't get too excited. It was the Rams that they trounced, but sometimes all you can do is that which is expected of you. And the Seahawks did that. Let's see how they respond to their first challenge this week.
13. New Orleans Saints (1-0)
They gave up a lot of points to a rookie QB in his first game at home. A team that didn't win a game last year. We know the Saints can score, especially against bad defenses, but will they stop anyone?
12. Philadelphia Eagles (1-0)
The rib was just the beginning. I'm telling you. You can't explain these things but the Vick karma is in full effect.
11. Minnesota Vikings (1-0)
We know Favre can play early. I don't see this lasting all year.
10. Baltimore Ravens (1-0)
Not as impressive as one would hope in a home game against the hapless Chiefs. That defense better step it up a bit.
9. Atlanta Falcons (1-0)
The Falcons looked like a team to beat and they didn't even have the running game working last week. You know, the one that featured a running back that ran for 17 TD's last year.
8. Dallas Cowboys (1-0)
That Tampa Bay offense is not as good as the Cowboys made them look. That could be a problem against teams that are more capable of stopping the Cowboys. Lots of shootouts could be in store this year.
7. Tennessee Titans (0-1)
That was a tall order and they almost came up with the win. You don't expect one of the best kickers in the game to be that ineffective. I see the Titan's being there when it counts, and props to Vince Young for being an upstanding citizen. I like what I'm seeing.
6. New York Giants (1-0)
I'm not sold on the Giants passing game yet. I'm not sure the Cowboys will be able to pose a threat to Eli though. I'm very interested to see what happens of the Cowboys can pressure Eli though.
5. Green Bay Packers (1-0)
First game jitters. They're fine.
4. New England Patriots (1-0)
Yes, it's possible to drop this far in a win. Did you watch the game?
3. San Diego Chargers (1-0)
Maybe I could have dropped them further, but I'm holding out for a semblance of a chance that the Raiders are better than we're all giving them credit for.
2. Indianapolis Colts (1-0)
I guess Peyton & Co. will be fine. Losing Anthony Gonzalez hurt though. But if anyone can figure out a way to work with what he's got, it's Peyton.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0)
Mike Tomlin sold me on PTI. They just figure out ways to win and they have that swagger going. You'll have to beat them to steal their crown. They won't give it to you, Troy Polamalu or no Troy Polamalu.
