NFL Power Rankings - Week 6

Ok, so I was a bit wrong about a few things.  But there are still two automatic wins out there every week with the Rams and Lions having had their bye weeks already.  So that's good.  I'm still having a tough time with my #1 team.  I honestly don't think there's a best team in football right now.  There isn't one team out there that scares me all that much.  What that means is that the end of the regular season and playoffs should be amazing this year.

32.  Detroit Lions (0-4)

Things are bad when Kyle Orton is picking you apart.  I originally had the Lions as the worst team in football because I lost on them in Week 1 against the Falcons.  Now?  They're that bad.  They really are worse than the Rams.  They aren't winning a game this season.

31.  St. Louis Rams (0-4)

They didn't lose last week.  That trend won't continue this week unless they pick up someone else's offensive line and defense.  At least Trent Green isn't back there anymore so I don't have to worry about him dying on the field from his 492nd concussion.  Operation Bet Against The Rams.  They have to lose by at least 20 to avoid Operation Bet Against The Lions gaining any more steam.

30.  Kansas City Chiefs (1-4)

How did the Broncos lose to this team?  That loss is going to look worse and worse with every passing week.  They have they bye week coming up which is always good when you plan on losing every week for the rest of the season.

29.  Oakland Raiders (1-3)

I am not exactly optimistic headed into this week against the Saints.  Some of my friends who are lifelong Raiders fans have disowned the team.  I'm not quite there yet but a 1-15 season could do it if Al Davis does absolutely nothing productive in the off-season.

28.  Cincinnati Bengals (0-5)

Why do they move up even though they're 0-5 and are starting Fitzpatrick at QB?  Because they looked frisky at Dallas which is more than any of the teams lower on this list would have done.  Carson Palmer wasn't exactly lighting it up this season.  Ask any of his fantasy owners.  They're still better than the Chiefs or Raiders, even with Fitzpatrick in there.

27.  Seattle Seahawks (1-3)

Apparently the rest of the world hasn't figured out how bad this Seahawks team is.  They can't control the line on either side of the ball.  Their QB is hurt, and, do you really need much more?  I don't care if Aaron Rodgers is on a stretcher this game.  The Seahawks should not be favored over anybody with more than a win right now.

26.  Cleveland Browns (1-3)

Here's another team helped out by a bye week because we may have forgotten how much they stink.  Even if they get Winslow and Stallworth in there, I think we'll be reminded again of how bad they are on Monday night.

25.  Houston Texans (0-4)

Ignoring the bittersweet ending for me having Houston and the over, how insane was that Sage Rosenfels leap?  That was like one of those plays in Any Given Sunday where you sit there and say, "no way this would ever happen in a real game, a guy jumping and then getting helicoptered in the air."  It happened, and to top it off, when I made the helicopter reference, one of the girls I was watching it said, "North Carolina, come on and raise up, take your shirt off, twist it round your head, spin it like a helicopter."  I thought I was the only one obsessed with Petey Pablo when "Raise up" came out.  The Texans might win this week, or maybe not.  I don't really care at this point.  Their season will be defined by that Indy game.

24.  San Francisco 49ers (2-3)

I don't like being wrong.  The niners let me down.  They apparently aren't a good team and forgot that they have Frank Gore in their backfield.  On top of that, they let Matt Cassel beat them deep.  It's one thing if he just heaves a jump ball to Randy Moss.  It's another when you let Cassel's "arm" flat out beat you.  They better be able to beat a Westbrook-less Eagles team if they want to hang on this season.

23.  Arizona Cardinals (3-2)

Sorry, I'm not convinced.  J.P. Losman is not a good football player.  You do not get credit for pounding J.P. Losman.  If they can put up a fight against the Cowboys at home then I'll start paying attention.

22.  Atlanta Falcons (3-2)

I'm confused.  Are they actually good?  I know Matt Ryan is better than I gave him credit for, but are the Falcons a good football team?  Can't be, right?  I don't know what to make of them.  I still think they can tank this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went .500 at this point either.

21.  Miami Dolphins (2-2)

I'm confused Part II.  How do they go from getting embarrassed by Arizona to beating up on the Patriots and Chargers in back to back games?  Did the whole team have an epiphany at the same time?  I'm staying away from every Dolphins game for the rest of the season.  I'll never figure out what to make of them.

20.  Chicago Bears (3-2)

Kyle Orton is not going to take the Bears to the promised land.  Don't get excited because they beat up on the Lions and were able to sneak past an Eagles team without Westbrook the week before.  They're in Atlanta this week, another stay away game for me.

19.  New Orleans Saints (2-3)

This may sound weird, but it is a very bad sign that the Saints are only favored by a TD at home against the Raiders after all that happened in Oakland.  The Saints can't finish a game, but you wouldn't think they'd have to against the Raiders.  Vegas knows something.  I was under the impression Reggie Bush could get 300 all-purpose yards a week to keep them in games.

18.  New York Jets (2-2)

This is a lose-lose week for the Jets.  If they look good I'll say it's because the Bengals suck and Fitzpatrick was in there, and if they look bad, then it's even worse for the aforementioned reason.  I'm not buying this team yet.

17.  Baltimore Ravens (2-2)

It's tough for your offense to look good against the Titans, and that personal foul call was brutal, but this offense is still leaving a lot to be desired.  Same old story in Baltimore, great defense, zero offense.

16.  Green Bay Packers (2-3)

The wheels are slowly coming off the wagon.  With Minnesota possibly being decent and Chicago getting random wins, the Packers better start getting it together.  They travel to Seattle this weekend, which isn't usually an easy place to play, but I still think that this Packers team can right the ship if Aaron Rodgers' shoulder doesn't fall off.

15.  New England Patriots (3-1)

I know that the Chargers are more talented, but we always ask this and it always ends up being the clincher, can Norv Turner beat Bill Belichick?  The Patriots really weren't impressive last week and it's going to take a bit more to go into San Diego and win.

14.  Minnesota Vikings (2-3)

A win's a win, but their defense and special teams were . . . what's the opposite of impressive?  Charles Barkley would say trrble, so we'll go with that.  Luckily for them they get an automatic win this week with Detroit coming into town.

13.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)

Their defense did the job in Denver, but how do you not score on Denver's defense.  Even Kansas City scored on them.  Tampa's going to have to at least feign an offense to take care of Carolina at home this week.

12.  Indianapolis Colts (2-2)

I know it's been said a lot, but this team really could be 0-4.  I'm not sure when they're going to wake up, but Baltimore isn't going to roll over and implode for Indy this week.  Peyton Manning & Co. need to wake up.

11.  San Diego Chargers (2-3)

How are they not good?  I don't get it.  They have weapons galore.  Can Norv Turner really be that bad?  The Patriots come to town, and the way that Denver is looking, this week could be an early must win for the Chargers.

10.  Philadelphia Eagles (2-3)

I don't know what to do with the Eagles.  They're a solid team, but I do know this:  Without a healthy Brian Westbrook, they are destined for mediocrity at best.

9.  Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)

Remember when they were on the verge of being forgotten and the Scobee hit that field goal?  Well, you should, because this isn't the same team that showed up early in the season.  The home loss against Pittsburgh wasn't pretty, but not an embarrassing loss either.  They could use a win in Denver this week.

8.  Denver Broncos (4-1)

The defense woke up against the Buccaneers but I'm waiting until they have to play against a real offense.  That may not happen against Jacksonville, but a win on Jacksonville will say a lot about this Broncos team.

7.  Buffalo Bills (4-1)

They need Trent Edwards.  Simple as that.  Trent Edwards isn't exactly All-Pro, but he's head and shoulders above J.P. Losman.  Once Edwards is able to remember his name again, this will be a solid football team.

6.  Carolina Panthers (4-1)

Again, it was the Chiefs, but a win's a win and the Panthers have a lot more of those than I thought they would at this point in the season.  A tough road win in Tampa Bay and this team could find itself in the Top 5.

5.  Washington Redskins (4-1)

I guess I'm a believer now.  They've had impressive road wins in their own division and have run the table since the first half of the first game.  An easy win against St. Louis this week makes a 5-1 Redskins team a real player.

4.  Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)

I don't think there's ever been a year where I've overrated the Steelers.  I never buy into them until the rest of society has.  Not this year.  This is a great team and Big Ben is a machine back there.  Pittsburgh and Tennessee are far ahead of the pack in the AFC.

3.  Dallas Cowboys (4-1)

I don't know what it is about the Cowboys.  They're the best team in the NFL on paper but I could absolutely see them losing in Arizona this weekend.  Grandma Wade needs to step aside already.

2.  New York Giants (4-0)

I'm sorry, but Seattle is a horrible team.  Beating them doesn't really count for much.  I don't know why I catch so much flack for having the Giants as my #2 but they haven't had an impressive win yet this season.  We'll see what happens in the second half of the season when they have to play real teams.

1.  Tennessee Titans (5-0)

I know they got a gift of a call on that roughing the passer, but they had the question of whether Kerry Collins can come through late answered.  He marched them down the field for a game winning TD.  This is the best defensive team in the NFL and I'm keeping them here until they lose.
